INDICATIONS

Exposure to UV radiation and blue light (from sunlight, phototherapy lamps, tanning lamps, or screens) leads to an intense production of free radicals, substances that irreversibly damage cellular DNA and proteins.

In addition to immediately visible effects (erythema and sunburn), the accumulation of damage causes delayed harmful effects such as premature skin aging, loss of skin elasticity, macular degeneration, and cataracts.

The body has endogenous defenses against free radicals in the form of antioxidant substances; however, these defenses have limited capacity, especially in individuals with light phototypes and in cases of prolonged but concentrated UV exposure.

Melanin production is another protective mechanism that helps shield the skin, as well as the retina, iris, and all ocular structures, from photo induced damage. Melanin deficiency increases eye sensitivity to sunlight, promoting degenerative ocular conditions.
